Monday, Monday

Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin’ all of the time

How perceptive of the Mamas and Papas to know that Monday morning between 8:00 am and 10:00am is street cleaning on Oak and Fell. This means you have to move your car from its safe parking spot and venture out into the wilderness again.

You gotta move

I have written previously about the perils of city parking, however, as with all things, it turns out that with a little persistence and observation, that things are not too bad. In fact you can nearly always find a place on the Panhandle park side of either Fell or Oak, the two streets that run North and South of the Panhandle.  Once installed the car can stay there all week. James and I very rarely use the car as the bike is a much faster way of moving around town. That said it is very convenient to have transport for the occasional trip to Palo Alto etc.

Street cleaning is the fly in the ointment. Every street is cleaned once a week at a set time and woe betide anyone whose car is still parked in the way of the street cleaner. In fact I have never seen a street cleaner and am beginning to suspect that they are mythical, used by the city to frighten naughty children.

So my Monday morning ritual is this – get up,  put bike in car, park car in GG park before 8:00, bike home, fiddle around, around until 9:30, bike to car, return to Fell for 9:55 at which time the whole park side of the road is empty of cars so I can park right outside the house and leave the car there all week!

I have a system. It is 9.15 and I can’t wait to get out there and get the best place. I will show them who rules these streets.

10:00 am Monday 18 Oct. That's my front door over there.

Splendid isolation
